The American Dream

The Article Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Changing Conceptions of the American Dream dissects the idea of the American Dream. It establishes that the American Dream is really just a quest for money. Arthur Miller's family didn't have much money, and the same can be said for his characters in The Crucible and Death of a Salesman. There is a simple understanding that everyone establishes when one talks of the American Dream of a perfect family, or a road traveled to achieve a perfect family. Miller's stories are set in a place far from this road. Arthur Miller doesn't believe in the American Dream, which would criticize the belief of the secret.
